Under The Mud is the result of a feature film screenwriting project with a group of young people from Liverpool. The project started when Hurricane Films (based in the city) approached a youth-led community centre in the Speke Garston area, ‘Interchill’.
Young people from Interchill and many from elsewhere became involved with the project, originating the idea and characters for the film. The core writing group then cemented the plot and characters and written the treatment, with the backing of CAMEO, a youth empowerment organisation based in Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts.
About Hurricane Films

Since March 2000 Hurricane Films have been telling great stories – fact and fiction – for both film and television. The latest feature from Hurricane Films is the lyrical, visual poem, ‘Of Time and the City’, directed by one of Britain’s greatest auteurs, Terence Davies.
The film was selected to play at a special ‘out of competition screening’ at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival where it received huge critical acclaim. The film has so far been invited to over 35 film festivals around the world, with BBC TV film critic Mark Kermode nominating it as the best overall film of 2008 on his “Kermode Awards” section of The Culture Show.
